Ready, Set, Dinner

6:00 AM - “Good morning mom, what’s for dinner?”
4:00 PM -“Uh Honey, I invited some of my co-workers over for dinner tonight … what can you put together?”

The meal planning, the shopping for the ingredients, the lines at the store and the prep work when you get home…. Whether you are cooking for one person or ten people, there never seems to be enough hours in the day to get it all done .…WELL NEVER FEAR! Life is about choices and YOU have choices with meal planning in the Twenty-First Century.

‘Meal-prep centers draw life from the fact that 77 percent of meals are eaten at home. Quick-service chains have evolved in recent years to more effectively feed families in their own home. Drive-thru and take out sales have skyrocketed in recent years-from $104 million in 2000 to $274 million in 2005 – largely due to the addition of curbside takeout….. These sales indicate that quick-serve is, in new ways, feeding the desire for families to gather around their own table…..’ [Steel, L.H. (2006, December). Magazine article in APA format. QSRMagazine.com, 1-4]

My Girlfriend’s Kitchen goes a step further to help families place healthy AND homemade dinners on the table! When people hear about Dinner Stores like My Girlfriend’s Kitchen, they all say the same thing: “What a great idea! I wish I’d thought of that! And people who have tried this concept LOVE IT.

What they see is, “If I can get fresh meals for a week, and do it for a price point that’s below what I get at a restaurant - I see value! And it’s in my neighborhood.” [Steel, L.H. (2006, December). Magazine article in APA format. QSR Magazine.com]

Did you know?

  • That more mealtime with the family was the single strongest predictor of better achievement scores and fewer behavior problems.
  • Kids who regularly eat dinner with their families are MORE LIKELY: to have lower levels of tension and stress at home; to say that their parents are proud of them; to say they can confide in their parents; to get better grades at school; to be emotionally content and have positive peer relationships.
  • Regular family dinners communicate to your children, “I like your company” Dinner together keep us in touch with family members’ activities and life experiences. They set the stage for us to value our family relationships, not take them for granted.
